I find these books to provide a good basis for music reading and building the required skill set to master their instrument. In addition to those materials, I find music through various on-line sites and from my inventory that students are interested in playing and compliments their abilities. I recommend beginner students practice on a beginner educational bell set and either a high quality snare pad or full snare drum, however I recognize that securing quality instruments becomes difficult as students become more serious musicians. I work with my students to find practical, healthy solutions to the problems presented by the unique practice demands of percussion and don't push my students to go farther than they are interested in going. I teach both classical reading and modern music theory to ensure a well rounded approach. I use the book series by Faber to cover classical reading. I believe Faber books do an excellent job at covering all areas of music. I make sure to keep tabs on my students' practicing as I believe in consistency.
