Haven been an educator for over 20 years, I use many methods geared towards student success. I make use of differentiated instruction to maximize student achievement. The main components of my lessons are tone, embouchure development, proper technique, articulation, and better understanding of how instrument works. Materials for lessons are dependent on student level that will include method books, solos, and supplemental music. Hi, my name is Caroline, and I began playing at the age of 3, formal training at age 5, studying with professional pianists all the way through college. I am classically trained, and studied classical piano as well as Jazz in college and beyond. I enjoy learning and teaching all types of music, including composition and improvisation. I received my PhD in Fine Arts from Texas Tech in 2018, having studied there with Dr. William Westney, performing recitals, accompanying instrumentalists and vocalists, teaching group classes and private lessons, as well as serving as pianist at multiple churches. I have my students start with sufficient stretching to get the body ready for singing. Following that, I warm up their voices with different scales and specific singing exercises, which I will use independently with students in different levels. Afterwards, we work on the music. I usually pick the music for my students. However, if there is a piece of music that my student particularly wants to learn, I am willing to compromise as long as it is suitable for his/her voice. Beginner clarinet students usually start with the Hendrickson Method for Clarinet Book One. This book teaches the most basic fundamentals all the way through advanced techniques while also giving the student a chance to learn more about music as a whole. Once the fundamentals are mastered, solo repertoire will be introduced for recitals or competitions.
