There's more to learning to play an instrument than scales and chords. My teaching method is more holistic covering, as needed, technique, interpretation, theory, performance, ear training, music listening, transcription, music copying, the mechanics of the instrument. We usually begin with pad and pen and move from there. When suitable, an appropriate method book or specific texts are chosen. My method also includes time playing together. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance.
