I am a professional guitar player and instructor living in Pickerington Ohio. I have retired from road work and now plan to dedicate all of my time to teaching. I have spent most of the last 20 years teaching 80 plus students a week. Though I did not attend college I started playing professionally at age 17 and have played Rock, Blues , and Country all over the United States ever since. I earned a bachelors degree in music composition and studied classical guitar in college. I taught private lessons off and on for several years before beginning teaching at a Music Studio in Columbus, Ohio. While there, I taught many guitar and ukulele lessons, and even started a ukulele club. While I was working at the studio teaching lessons at night, I was working on a masters degree in education. Today, I teach Science at a local high school, but missed the setting of one-on-one music lessons, so here we are! Read More

In order to tie everything together, I think it is important to play music with each other and along with recorded music as an example. Admittedly, the content of scales, chords, and music theory in itself can be dry. This is why I tend to customize how to practice something like a pentatonic minor scale. Read More

Music should be fun. If it isn't fun, why do it? Music is art, not machinery, and I believe lesson time should be the perfect blend of work and fun. It takes work to achieve new skill levels in music, but it takes joy, love and fun to make the work worth it! I help guide students to achieve new goals by encouraging and always pointing to the positive (because to me negative reinforcement just doesn't work). Read More

I believe it's important for beginning guitar players to get a balanced understanding of the guitar, while also taking the time to enjoy the simple milestones. These milestones vary for each student, depending on their personal goals but each stage of the learning curve presents its own unique set of challenges. For many beginners, learning the basic chords and being able to perform their favorite songs is the "ultimate goal" but getting there can lend to serious growing pains... Read More
