I am a dedicated and experienced guitar teacher with an excellent understanding of the learning process, who loves working with students to help them reach their goals. I earned a Master of Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music and a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Minnesota. I have performed across the US, Europe, and China, as a chamber musician, soloist, and member of the Minneapolis Guitar Quartet. Read More

My teaching style is very focused on the student's desire to learn what they want. Very early into taking on a new student, I try to find what/who inspires them. Doing so allows me to tailor my teaching to each individual student. I also like to have 3 main "small improvement" objectives for each lesson. There's improvement on what we did during our last lesson, improvement during the lesson with something new I will introduce, and improvement for our next lesson with something I will give to the students to work on themselves after our lesson. I started teaching in high-school. I taught guitar and drums from ages 7 to 55, from the absolute beginner to someone rekindling an old habit. I had the opportunity to use the lessons I was learning in college while I was still in college. I not only was a tutor, but I had some students outside of school. This helped my skills as a teacher improve quickly. Since college, I have been performing origjnals and covers in my free time, and I really enjoy it, but eventually I would love to teach more than i perform. Read More

I use generally use Faber and Faber for piano and the Yamaha method for guitar. However, each student learns differently therefore I like to meet and assess the needs before choosing a course to follow. For band students, I use the school's chosen method of instruction supplementing with theory, technique and performance pieces. For piano students, I get to know each student's taste in music and choose accordingly. I encourage my voice students to learn a varied repertoire of classical, folk songs, Broadway and pop if they desire. Read More

I try to strike a balance between music lessons being serious and being fun. I expect my students to practice almost every day and I expect that the parents will be part of keeping them accountable for scheduling that practicing. Lessons are a combination of learning technical skills and learning songs, which usually are mostly classical songs with a few contemporary songs thrown in for motivation. Read More

Teaching music is one of the most rewarding experiences for both the teacher and the student. I teach students at their own pace, focusing on taking them from where they are to there highest potential. I encourage realistic goals and strategies to reach their goals at every lesson. Having a very specific plan for how to improve is key for reaching your potential,I adapt my teaching to the student and work hard to find the most effective way to reach the student. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
