When I approach teaching drums, I start by assessing the student's current level of knowledge and ability. This helps me understand what they are comfortable with and where they need more guidance. I also ask about their goals and what they hope to achieve through their drumming journey. This allows me to tailor my lessons to their specific needs and interests. Next, I break down the basic elements of drumming, such as proper grip and posture, and make sure the student is comfortable and confident with these fundamental techniques. Read More

Jason is an acclaimed professional guitarist, singer and songwriter who also teaches privately in Nassau County, Long Island, NY. Jason was a student of famed NYC guitarist and current Berklee school of music professor, Dave "Fuze" Fiuczynski, after first beginning his own guitar playing journey as a 10-year-old conservatory student on the south shore of Long Island. In addition to writing and performing full time, Jason has been teaching professionally for over 10 years and, in that time, has maintained a consistent student base of 25-30 students at a time, guys and girls, men and women, ranging in ages from 10 to 75. I love to inspire my students in a nurturing, encouraging and supportive environment. I want the student to feel confident in their growth and progress, and to trust their own voice or guitar playing and creativity. I will teach each individual at their own pace and when I see they are ready to move forward, we will move forward slowly and easily so that the student feels the pace is excellent for their own growth and development. I generally begin with Alfred's Guitar Method for very young students or adult students who are interested in learning the rudiments of music. For intermediate students we work on polishing technique. I also use the Royal College of Music series for young students who are interested in taking the ABRSM placement exam. I have adult students who also want to learn songs they enjoy listening to, so we work with tablature (numbers). Read More

I always begin a lesson with having the student play a song/piece of their choice, so that they can feel confident and comfortable in their own skin and in the lesson space. For wind instruments, long tones and scales will occur at the beginning of the lesson, and will be followed by study of an etude and/or piece of repertoire. I will ask the student to sing through the piece, so that the student can make a connection with their own voice and with the music, followed by the student reading through the piece with their instrument.
