These books are primarily classical pieces, but I also use digital accompaniments for jazz and popular music. Theory and ear training are also part of my lessons. The key to accomplished lesson program is to wrap the lessons around what a students interests are. For example, if you like rock, then you should study it intently, but also learn the theory of composition, scales, and chord patterns and progressions. I'm a senior college student studying Music Industry with a concentration in flute. I started playing the flute about 12 years ago and participated in numerous local competitions which allowed me to play in internationally known halls such as the Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. I started teaching private lessons to students when I was in high school and focused mostly on Classical performance. I believe the number one rule of playing music is to have fun. Stressing this frequently with my students to remind them to not get frustrated with themselves if they run into any challenges with learning their instrument is a part of my teaching style. One of the many motivational sayings I tell them is, "Nothing in music is hard, it's just unfamiliar." I lean heavily on what they're interested in, if they have any favorite artists or songs and I also balance that with artists and songs that are some of my favorites. Read More
