Throughout the years I have taught in person, online, have led flute choirs, and have been a clinician for woodwind sections for bands and orchestras. I have performed all across the state of Pennsylvania, in Connecticut, New York, Delaware, and as far away as Italy. I have been teaching since 2007, and have worked with nearly all levels -- from the ultra beginners who have never held a flute to the advanced flutist who has gone on to place in competitions or won collegiate scholarships. I've had 6-year-old students and 60-year-old students. In addition, I also have given workshops on topics such as stage presence, vibrato, and intonation, and have conducted three different flute choirs. For Beginners who are just learning how to read music, I usually start off with Faber's method, there is a version for adults as well as children. This seems to progress at a very suitable speed, comfortable yet still challenging, and has proved to be quite effective in getting basics down. My teaching style is relaxed and organic. Don't get me wrong, we will work hard! But it will be fun and enriching. I teach my students to appreciate the music they make, and to listen to themselves for what is working well, in addition to what can be improved. I am a flutist, improviser, and composer with a bachelors degree in Jazz Flute Performance from the New England Conservatory of music. As a past member of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra and a Bruce Montgomery Foundation Springboard Grant winner, I am experienced in classical competitions at the middle/high school level.
