I begain teaching as a band assistant in college. I would lead sectionals and work with students who where struggiling one on one. As I gained experiance my role and responsibly grew and I began to run rehearsals and plan for concerts. One aspect of lessons that I emphasise is musicality. Often I will ask my students to listen to the song that they are working on or watch the movie or tv show it comes from because it is important to hear and see the bigger picture. Read More

Instruments: Flute Piccolo

I started playing the flute in 2010, and the piccolo a little bit after that. In 2013 I started performing through international competitions, and received my diploma in musical performance through ABRSM in 2016, certifying me to teach. I recently graduated from Princeton University and performed while there in orchestra and pit orchestra groups. I grew up in Singapore and really enjoyed performing at venues like the National Gallery while there, and also was honored to perform at Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall in NYC in 2016. Read More

Instruments: Piano Flute Music

For beginning students in flute and piano, I use Trevor Wye flute books and Alfred piano books, respectively. These books cover fundamentals and hand technique and once that is learned and internalized, then I will introduce more solo or accompanied repertoire that they would eventually perform in a recital. For beginning composition students (which are taught remotely on Zoom), I will go over different "lectures" about fundamental music theory and integrate short composition assignments that go according to what was learned in the lesson. My teaching style is versatile. What may work for one student may not work for another. The student's goals will be centered as we embark on the path the student wants to take. This path can be composed of academic aspirations, personal curiosities for specific genres, folk music from foreign countries, or even just songs, self-composed or not. Your destination guides my lesson plan and the theory, tone exercises and all that jazz help to get us there smoothly. Read More

I've been teaching private lessons in music since I was in high school and have always enjoyed sharing and mentoring younger students and professionals whenever my guidance or council has been sought. I've crossed pollinated my teaching methods over the years with my experiences working in a variety of environments from Universities, Opera Houses, Concert Venues, Theatres, and dojos. I like to emphasize the consistency of practice and finding the enjoyment in each session of practice and play. Read More

Instruments: Piano Flute Piccolo

It is important and rewarding for both me and the student to have a passion for their music and learning. Because of this, it is important to me that each student sets their own goals. I will encourage and help the students to set high but realistic goals that will bring them enthusiasm for the music. I try to bring inspiration and a lot of guidance to each student. And I love to have fun. Read More

I also hold a private studio and offer private lessons in person and over Zoom. I love teaching and encourage my students to both develop discipline and great practice habits as well as have fun and pursue their individual interests on the instrument. I want to help each and every student achieve his or her goals, whether those are taking up a new hobby for fun, keeping up in band or orchestra at school, or pursuing music in college or professionally. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
