I began teaching in 2012 when I was awarded the Graduate Assistant position at Western Michigan University. As a G.A., I was responsible for teaching non-music majors saxophone lessons, theory and ear-training, as well as coaching ensembles. I also taught flute and clarinet at Paramount Charter Academy in Kalamazoo, Michigan to middle school students. It was a very rewarding experience to teach people of various ages, ability levels, and goals, and allowed me to refine my teaching methods based on the needs of each student. I currently teach music theory, piano, saxophone, clarinet, flute, drums, and composition at Belle Arti Center for the Performing Arts in Queens, NY. Read More

The first thing I like to establish with my students is a solid practice routine. There is no formula that works perfectly for everyone, but I do have a very good system which can easily be altered to fit each students individual needs. The next step is to set realistic goals. When students have a clear vision of what they are working towards, it is much easier to stay motivated and on track to achieving those goals. Read More

I first began teaching while still completing my Bachelors degree at William Paterson in 2011. Most of my students were beginning level piano students, but I had a few more advanced students as well as some people studying saxophone with me. My teaching philosophy is to combine teaching the technique of an instrument with learning songs as well as theory and improvisation/composition. Everyone learns technique, but learning music that I wanted to learn, learning how those songs were written (theory), and eventually elaborating on those songs (improvisation), and writing my own music (composition), was what really got me deeply engaged in the act of practicing and making music, and I have found over several years of teaching that it keeps my students engaged and enjoying the learning process. If following a school band's curriculum we can work on whatever book they require. To make lessons more personal we will move at the pace of the student, however most of the time their band director will have weekly playing assignments, It will be my goal to make sure each students is fully prepared for the assignment and for the more ambitious students, to go beyond. The student can come in with band music or we can find a music interest and strive towards improving while working on something they enjoy. Read More

I have been teaching for 5 years in both private lesson situations and and group lesson situations. I enjoy teaching beginner piano and flute and teaching all levels on the clarinet and saxophones. I have taught in both the classical and jazz idioms. I have taught as young as seven and as old as seventh and I enjoy seeing what curious students bring to the lesson. I teach both by ear and reading music. Read More

All of my students learn through working towards practical and achievable goals that we set together. Beginning students are introduced to the fundamentals of music and flute technique through pairing theoretical exercises with practical, tangible music-making. This sets up a habit from day one that all of the concepts that we learn have a real-life purpose. Younger students begin learning from the Abracadbra flute book, progressing to solo repertoire and exercises as they progress. Read More

I'm a dedicated and passionate multi-instrumentalist and composer and have been sharing my love of music with students of all ages since 2009. I studied jazz performance at the New England Conservatory of Music and my curiosity in other styles of music has led me to branch out into classical music, rock, electronic, and a variety of folk musics from different parts of the world. I'm lucky to have been able to perform in and around Seattle, Boston, Europe and now Brooklyn. Read More
