I began teaching in high school, where I taught lessons to the younger students as well as instructed my jazz band in improvisation lessons. I enjoyed problem solving with my students and figuring out the appropriate exercise or explanation to help them get over a particular hurdle. I have not yet started my teaching career but I am super excited to start gaining experience with all of you! I have taken a flute pedagogy class at my undergraduate, Gettysburg College and a woodwind and brass method class during my graduate studies at The Longy School of Music. I have much more experience performing and participating in summer flute masterclasses. I do hope to gain professional music performance experience by being in an orchestra, opera, or ballet, doing chamber music, and organizing small solo concerts. Read More

To help you feel like you aren't getting 'stuck' in lessons, I like to create goals and then create a timeline on how and when you'll achieve those goals. I always encourage students to find contemporary books with fun songs to try out, like a Disney series or pop songs. In addition, for those who are in school band, I highly recommend they bring in their materials at the beginning and have a lesson or two on them, especially if they have any solos or auditions pending. As the student advances, so do the materials. At the intermediate to advanced level, we will explore more technically engaging solos, and focus a lot on etude and scale work. Read More

I have been an active performer, composer, and educator for the last 15 years of my life recently serving as Artist in Residence at Penn State's Altoona campus.
