With this in mind, each person's lesson is subjective and progresses according to the student's learning style; a beginning 5 yr old student's lesson will look much different that a beginning 14 yr old student's lesson. Each student will learn repertoire from a lesson book, solo repertoire and anything else that they may express interest in. First I will assess each individual student based on their own skill level and requirements. In each lesson we will work on fundamentals of flute techniques, whether that is posture, embouchure, and/or finger techniques. In each of these lessons I hope to instill knowledge of music theory and history. We will learn many different styles of music ranging from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and 20th Century flute music. I studied transverse flute at Moravian College with Robin Kani from 1985-1992. From March 1996 to May 1997, I studied with Brooks De-Wetter Smith at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I studied recorder for two semesters at Moravian College with professors Dr. Paul Larson and Dr. Larry Lipkis, composer in residence and performer with the Baltimore Consort. 1994 I began to teach privately. I have taught Suzuki flute Book one to beginners,from 1996-1997 in Chapel Hill, NC, and also at the Lehigh Conservatory from 1998-2002 I also teach intermediate to advanced level in flute and baroque recorder. I started a flute studio in 2014 and haven't stopped teaching since! Throughout the years I have taught in person, online, have led flute choirs, and have been a clinician for woodwind sections for bands and orchestras. I have produced students who consistently achieve superior ratings at solo festivals and have received principal chair positions within their school band.
