For beginning students it is essential to practice rudiments with a metronome. I will also start you out with basic 4/4 drum beats and explain to you the importance of balance and the back beat. The sooner a student learns proper posture and good technique the sooner they will be winning the battle of the bands. It's important to me that private lessons incorporate dialogue as much as possible. A student's feedback and questions are invaluable when deciding how to proceed. Rather than handing the student new materials from week to week without regard for their personal needs, I prefer to really dig in and figure out what their specific barriers to improvement are.
