I come from a family of natural musicians. Meaning Ive been blessed with a good ear for music . I started playing at the age of 4 and was performing professionally by the age of 15. I grew up exposed to several styles of music from all my family members. Everything from Rock, Jazz, Funk, Latin, Motown, RB, Country, Eastern Music, and Pop. Learning multiple styles of music before I was formally trained was a big help when It came time to learn proper techniques and feels as well as reading and writing . Read More

I have been playing the drums for 16 years and the guitar for 18 years. I started by learning how to play rock beats and songs independetly and eventually started taking lessons from drummer, Martin Dosh of Andrew Bird's live band. Martin, a jazz and hip-hop drummer from Minneapolis taught me how isolation techniques and jazz/swing exercises derived from Hal Leonard's methods book. Since College, I have been playing in local and touring bands as well as teaching out of my studio space in Ukrainian Village, Chicago. Read More

My main goal as an educator is to first and foremost teach to the personal goals of the student. Lessons are planned and taught around both fundamentals and technique, as well as material surrounding the students preferred musical styles, goals they want to reach, and music they are working on in groups outside of our private lessons. Music is such a personal and influential aspect of many peoples' lives. There is no one genre or song that will necessarily speak to everyone, and I believe that this should also translate to private lessons. Read More

I have been really fortunate to network in the music scene to meet so many different people that have welcomed me into a myriad of musical projects with widely differing styles. I've been very active as a working musician, playing small bars, large clubs, festivals, private and corporate events, wedding, and even VIP section shows at large venues with national acts. The expansive diversification of experience at different levels has thoroughly prepared my to know how to survive as a working musician and I passionately pass on this gained knowledge and experience with my lessons. If they are frustrated, I work out the problem with them. If they are very eager to learn a specific exercise, then I stay out of their way but remain present to lend a guiding hand. My goal is to create not just great drummers, but great musicians, and when I see my students exude joy in playing, making mistakes, trying again, and exploring unknown territories, I know that I am making strides toward this goal. If you are a beginner, we start with right and left hand positions. Once you master main principles and choose the technique (fingers/muting/pick/slap/etc) you move on to working on a line. Then we increase the repertoire and develop various techniques. If you already have some background, we concentrate on your interests, such as styles, techniques and genres (both hands, finger and/or pick, slap, alternative tuning, chords, composing and line developing, etc.).
