My teaching experience dates back to my college days as I began teaching as an instructor for a local high school marching band, leading their woodwind sectionals and marching clinics. I began teaching full-time in 1992 and temporarily left full-time teaching in 1998 when my daughter was born. It was at this time that I first opened my home up to teaching privately. I tailor my lessons to meet each student's individual needs. I work to balance the time between challenging exercises they may struggle with, and fun playing they can enjoy and excel at. I frequently discuss goals with students, such as "we will work towards being about to play 8 measures without taking a breath" or "within two months we will be able to comfortably play up to high-C." I frequently remind them how much they should be practicing, and we always check in each lesson to see how we are progressing towards our goals. Read More

I love the learning process and to see students progress through the stages of learning an instrument. I taught myself to play the piano before I started formal lessons. I began playing the saxophone at the same time I took up the piano. I entered my undergraduate program in 1992, majoring in music education with the saxophone and piano as my principle instruments.
