I’ve enjoyed teaching the clarinet since I first decided to get serious about music in high school. I got my start by offering lessons to younger students in my neighborhood and the surrounding towns in the western suburbs of Chicago. During my undergraduate years in Greencastle, IN, I took several clarinet pedagogy classes and began teaching local students in the DePauw University Preparatory Program. I am goofy kind of gal who is a kid at heart so, while I do not allow the students to goof-off during practice, I definitely encourage the children to have fun and take breaks. Learning a new skill is taxing on the brain so I do enjoy inserting some brain-breaks here and there, when necessary. I'm also a very big sticker advocate! My beginning students often learn their first scale within the first 5 lessons! Once a student completes the Elementary Method, I will have them work on the Rubank Intermediate Method, which covers dynamic expression as well as major and minor scales. I will also assign solo repertoire at all levels, so students are always excited to play and motivated to practice.
