In 2010, I graduated from VanderCook College of Music with a Bachelor's in Music Education. I have played in a variety of instrumental ensembles on different instruments, from euphonium, trombone, marimba and drum-set to name a few. As a freelance performer, I have presented solo recitals throughout Illinois and can frequently be found woodwind doubling in musical theater pits around Chicago. Tommy S. currently holds a master's degree in clarinet performance from the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied with Mr. Charles Neidich. Tommy also holds his bachelor's degree from Illinois State University, where he studied with Dr. David Gresham. Tommy has been a winner of the Illinois State University Concerto Competition, the King's Peak International Music Competition, and the Lillian Fuchs Chamber Music Competition. While living in Japan I had the opportunity to present masterclasses in Nishinomiya, Hyogo Prefecture, teaching using only Japanese language. This experience taught me the value of words, and also the importance of ensuring that students are able to comprehend all discussed material. Last year, I was invited to teach a masterclass in Seoul, Korea, working with Choongheon Lee, Principal Clarinet of the CheongJu City Symphony.
