Before attending the University of North Texas I was a band director, jazz band director, chorus director, free lance performer and cruise ship musician. In New York the band directors instruct all instruments in group lessons so I am familiar with technique, tone, tuning, fingerings etc...for all band instruments. My teaching and performing specialty is woodwinds, namely saxophone, flute and clarinet in both classical and jazz genres. These were wonderful opportunities to teach peers and those who have been in the music education field much longer than the four of us. Although teaching large groups is exciting, nothing beats one-on-one lessons with a student. I have had and taught plenty of these lessons for several instruments including flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, french horn, euphonium, tuba, percussion, piano, guitar, and bass guitar. He was a semi-finalist in the ClarinetFest Young Artist Competition in Assisi, Italy (2013) and was a finalist in the Coeur d’Alene Concerto Competition (2013 and 2014). And he was the first place winner with an award for best overall performance in the college solo division of the 198th Army Reserve Solo Competition, judged by members of Perishing’s Own Army Band from Washington D.C (2015).
