I'm a music education major that graduated from Mansfield University in 2016. As a performing musician, I have had the opportunity to perform some of the most demanding pieces for piano solo, as well as collaborative music. As a teacher, I have had the privilege to teach beginner to advanced level students on the piano. Although I enjoy teaching piano, I also study and teach string instruments. I am also a composer and enjoy writing my own music, as well as writing music to help out my students. Read More

While I have a general curriculum, I am very flexible and try to adjust to my every student individually. Generally I like to employ books by Suzuki, as I find them very methodical, as well as easily accessible. I supplement the Suzuki books by Alwin Schroeder's 170 foundation studies, and lots of scales and technical exercises. I encourage active listening and work with a student to build confidence performing. In addition to learning the instrument I advise on the business side of music making, making sure you have the knowledge and tools to plug your skills and talent in real life. Read More

I have been teaching private lessons for the last 6 years and began teaching in the public school system in spring of 2022. This fall, I will be a long-term substitute orchestra teacher for North Allegheny School District. My education at Duquesne was entirely focused on music education. I took various courses in instrument methodology for brass, woodwind, and string instruments, and studied leading pedagogy practices from distinguished educators. I studied cello with PSO musician Adam Liu, and performed challenging works for solo cello in my studio as well as orchestral works with the full Duquesne Symphony Orchestra. Read More

I strongly believe that every person can succeed in music given proper attention and opportunity, and therefore focus my lessons differently for individual students according to their skills and interests. For beginning students, unless they are adults or already proficient in another instrument, I always start with my favorite method books to ensure the fundamentals are firmly established. I usually realy on Alfred's Basic Piano Course, Strictly Strings, Suzuki, or Essental Elements depending on the instrument I'm teaching. Read More

My favorite part of teaching is when I student realizes how much they have improved. But this is not always easy to see! I tell my students that sometimes we have big growth spurts in our playing and sometimes its like watching the grass growwe know it has grown because it got taller, but didnt actually see it happening. Like plants that need watering and sunlight, music students need constant nurturing. Read More

My favorite quote is: "All students have gifts, they just open their presents have different times." I work with students where they are and at their pace. I start beginners with Essential Elements 2000 for Strings. As students progress I use Samuel Applebaum method books, traditional etudes like Wolfhardt and Sevick, Suzuki books and solo pieces as appropriate. I teach Traditional Classical string instruction. I will work to find pieces that students find interesting and keep my instruction engaging and fun for all of my students of all ages. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.. Read More
