I really enjoy and endorse Hal Leonard's guitar teaching books. They are widely available, affordable and easy to read and comprehend for beginners. I like to develop a personalized lesson plan for each student beginning with an evaluation during the first lesson. I like to ask a lot of questions pertaining to the students' musical background, learning preferences and musical tastes. I then focus on fundamentals, practice regimens and music theory. Read More

My teaching style is very analytical yet engaging! I try to establish a good relationship before pushing a student. At that point I will ask the student to play to the best of his/her ability. I teach in a style that helps children isolate problem areas, so that they can practice specific excerpts they are struggling with. I also do a lot of ear training and music theory to ensure that students are obtaining well-rounded musical skills. Read More

I believe in being being honest and encouraging, allowing students the chance to struggle and fail in a safe environment, while stressing and correcting proper techniques. I encourage practicing a little almost every day of the week, and finding what fires you up about the instrument. I also make sure to take an interest in student's lives beyond music- people are busy, and I understand those pressures! Besides that, music can relate to many areas and disciplines in life, and one's own previous experiences offer many methods for greater understanding. Read More

I first try to establish why the student wants to learn their instrument and what artists/bands they are influenced by if any. Although I do try to establish goals for them, these goals are reasonable and attainable. It is important to me that they progress at their own pace and have fun as well. Nothing is more important to me than helping others develop a passion for music and I will use anything from Bach to Beethoven or The Beatles to Guns N'Roses to help them achieve it. Read More

No two students are the same! Firstly, I like to ask the students what the end goal is with their respective instrument. I don't rely on lesson plans, I observe the student as they run through exercises, and I develop each lesson based on areas that they need improvement in. I am extremely patient, and I acknowledge every accomplishment I can. As long as the student is willing to learn, I am willing to teach at whatever pace is comfortable for them. Read More

I began teaching private lessons in college with a few students that went to the school and I fell in love with helping people reach their musical goals. With the 6 years of teaching experience I have realized that the skills you get from learning an instrument are more important than we think, it helps with problem solving and critical thinking. Also critical listening is the biggest skill that you will develop. Read More
