I love working with students and try to get them to learn as much as they can about the guitar or bass guitar. I teach all ages from ages 9 through 45 and I love working with them. I have been playing bass guitar for 12 years and guitar for 10 years and I practice everyday. I started out taking bass guitar lessons and eventually started playing in bands as a bassist and taught many students around the world. Read More

I'm a driven musician and educator who strives to use my gift to make a positive difference in the lives of my listeners and students. I studied (undergrad and graduate respectively) at Howard University and Temple University, two wonderful urban campuses. I have been blessed to spend years cultivating my style and technique in the authentic music scenes of these cities. I have had the opportunity to perform in venues including Blues Alley, Chris's Jazz Cafe, South Kitchen and Jazz Parlor, The Kennedy Center, and The McCarter Theatre with artists such as Tim Warfield, Warren Wolf, Chucho Valdes, Akua Allrich, Braxton Cook, Khary Abdul Shaheed among others. For beginners to the guitar, bass or banjo I usually start with the basic notes and chord shapes. When they progress and for more advanced students, I introduce reading tab, music, scales and basic chord progressions. For advanced students I generally work with modes, finer technique and advanced sightreading, chordal and modal melodies. To work in practice exercises I typically bury them in pieces the student enjoys to better get the hang of them. Read More

For beginning woodwind students, I have had success using the Rubank method books as a starter. Alongside a method book, I like to work on material chosen by the student, as well as my own supplemntal exercises. It is important for the student to understand the musical concepts associated with the repertoire, as well as focusing on performing well. I also prefer to have my students keep a practice log book, in order to track their progress. For piano and music theory, I like to use the John Thompson method for beginner students, and the Bastien Piano Literature series for more advanced students. Read More

My teaching style is all about the growth of the student and doing what I can to spur their progress. Being new to private instruction, I am eager to discover what teaching methods work most effectively for each student I interact with, and even strengthen my own guitar skills in the process. In teaching, I aim to help make music feel like fun as opposed to a chore or obligation and pass on what I have found most effective and helpful in my journey thus far. Read More

Hello! My name is Chris. I am a full time professional performer. My instrument is the bass (both double bass and electric bass). I have been playing the bass for about 20 years now. Before that, I had sung in choirs from a young age, and I continue to sing to this day. I also studied piano from age 8, which I truly believe helped my musical development immensely. The genres that I perform within the most are jazz, avant-garde, rock, and folk. Read More

I began my musical studies when I was 6 years old. At the age of 10 I was already able to play with tremendous fluency different instruments, but I focused mainly on piano, guitar, voice and electric bass. When I was 14 years old, I got interested in Jazz, Tango and classical music so I started playing the upright bass because it is an essential instrument in these styles of music. After finishing high school, I was already a musician with excellent skills in many different instruments and with a huge understanding of music. Read More
