I view music as a language and believe in the importance of being able to manipulate it to convey a message to the listener. I allow students to choose the songs they learn and couple them with technical exercises to improve dexterity and familiarity with the instrument. I believe in a "do no harm" philosophy, where my primary goal is to have students enjoy music on their instrument without being overly burdened with "homework" and "practice." Read More

My methods differ for each instrument. For piano I will start with Alfred's basic piano course if the student is a beginner. It helps students visualize the basic techniques for sitting and playing the piano in a way that will prevent injury. From there we walk through the book until the student understands how the keys and reading music works.
