I'm a passionate musician that has over 25 years of professional experience in the music industry. I was born and raised into four generations of gospel singing back in Arkansas. My professional career began as a backup vocalist and keyboardist for Prince back in 1999. I recorded countless studio material such as "Rave n2 the Joy Fantastic" and "Musicology" and toured the world with him for over 17 years. For three years I was a camp counselor in the La Honda Music Camp (Hayward, CA). As a counselor, I looked after 10-12 middle school-aged girls, oversaw brass sectionals, coached trombone, and assisted in the junior wind ensemble. In high school I used to coach my classmates in the trombone section. In my grad school years I began to teach beginning piano and trombone. My hope when teaching music is that the kids have a lot of fun learning their instrument, so I always encourage them to learn songs they'd like to sing/play along to. Read More

My teaching style is two part. Many teachers approach each student with the same routine and technique, and don't really listen to the issues the student has or wants to discuss. I listen to students' thoughts and observations, and address their issues and concerns specifically; as well as coming in with my own plan for what can be improved and how to go about achieving the students' goals and what needs to occur for improvement in my professional opinion. My teaching experience began in undergrad, our teachers started a vocal pedagogy class in which we were required to have a student. Also in undergrad we participated in a studio repertoire class where we would sing for one another. Since graduating I've had the opportunity to utilize my music degree in vocal instruction, directing, musical directing, after school music instruction and (my greatest passion) performing on stage. I have been teaching private lessons for about 16+ years now and performing for over 20 years. I've studied with a variety of teachers and their styles, which I feel has given me a good sense of what works and doesn't work well.
