Most beginning students will start with a viola rental. This is a great option because it is less of a financial commitment than buying a new instrument, and it allows for flexibility in the size. The sizing is important, especially when it comes to children, as they will usually start out with a smaller instrument than is considered the adult standard. When you are beginnin the renting process it is important to have the student present so they can be fit for the right size. Our teachers will also be able to guide you in your instrument choosing.
Taking viola lessons in your home is a great way for beginning, and advanced students to add lessons to their busy schedule. Not only are you saving money and time on travel, but you are getting the same great lesson experience as in studio lessons. Many children will prefer in home lessons as they are able to experience a new instrument in the comfort and security of their home, making them more at ease, and able to take in all that the lessons have to offer.
All of our Musika teachers are highly qualified and able to teach everything the student will need in order to be successful with their instrument. While no one teaching method is used by all of our teachers, if you are interested in a particular style, such as Suzuki, we would be happy to find a teacher who specializes in that. All teachers will teach a combination of music theory, proper technique, and musicianship.

Our earliest recommended starting age for viola is 4, although exceptions can certainly be made for a younger student who is capable of handling the strings properly and who has sufficient strength in the fingers and hands. A teacher can help you decide which size instrument to choose depending on the age and height of your child.
