I have been lucky to perform more times than I can recall in my native Portland and the greater Pacific NW region. I continue to play regularly in a variety of genres and venues, and am continually seeking new projects and new connections with other musicians. I am a believer of structure AND fun. I typically start students with basic technical work, combined with creative games to keep the skills relevant and interesting. Then I introduce more complicated process and ideas into the mix, while allowing the students to find out their own voices. I can't prescribe one way of teaching to differnet people, therefore I won't until I get to meet that student! :) An avid lover of dance and yoga, I incorporate lots of movement games, body work, and breathing exercises in my lessons. I am an instructor who recognizes music as a powerful symbol of humanity and the dramatic emotional effects it has on people. Through my academic study of music theory, history, and performance, I have been able to play with and learn from many accomplished musicians. In 2008 I graduated from Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, and since then have written for, recorded with, and played in many different bands throughout the country. From Laurel Lee and the Escapees, an alternative country band in my hometown of Jacksonville, FL, to latin rock and salsa groups in Eugene, OR, my appreciation and desire to understand rhythms from different musical traditions is always growing.
