Hi, My name is Solomon and I am a passionate artist, musician, producer, teacher (Piano/Keyboard Acoustic/Electric Guitar) and student of music performance and music production. In 2011, i stepped deeper into my music career by beginning to experiment with neo-soul, classic rb, funk and reggae music via taking music theory and piano classes at Morgan State University, soon joining the professional musicians in the area who performed publicly. I've been producing music and performing for 9 years, both on stage and in-studio production sessions. Read More

I am passionate about helping others find their passion especially in music. I love teaching people how to make cool sounds with their voices. What I run into a lot is that a long time ago someone told My student that they could not sing and it's funny how people carry that with them throughout their lives so my job is to change that perception. It's not always easy. I tried to give my students clear expectations of what I want and try to make them feel comfortable by using humor and getting them to relax and not be afraid to make an ugly sound Read More

For young, beginning and novice students, I believe that it is important to find and instill a love of music before diving too deeply into the fundamentals. Music is a beautiful thing, but it can be overwhelmingly complex at the same time. I will only take on students who show a genuine interest in music, and from there I like to cultivate that interest. We can discover what they like about music and go from there. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to college. I was a student teacher as well as a mentor. When i graduated college I began teaching my own private lessons for piano and have been for almost 3 years in student homes. I start from 5 years old, all the way up to adults. For my younger students (5 year olds) I encourage to practice everyday for 15-20 min as it helps memory and passion for their instrument. Read More

I dont have only one. It depends on the child or the adult. Someone might need Suzuki, some Essentials, some russian method(Radionov) and also music that they like! I try to be flexible and to understand whats best for them! Also I try to keep a balance between fun and dedication, for them to also be aware that music requires discipline even when you do it just as a hobby! Read More

My teaching experience goes back to my college days, as I began teaching private adult lessons for my Studio class 5 years ago and have been teaching privately ever since. For the past year, however, I've been an elementary music teacher in Washington, D.C. I am certified to teach Pre-K-12th grades in public schools, although I usually coach adults privately. I now live in Richmond and gig around the area frequently at weddings, churches, and local venues/theatres. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time for school years, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 17 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
Practicing is about progress, not perfection. I aspire to be the best at my craft and so concerning myself with perfection is not half as effective as reducing my chance of imperfection when I perform. I have learned to minimize distractions and be intentional on what I expect to accomplish. If you’re new, take your time and break sessions up into bite size pieces, if you're a bit more seasoned, approach it very much the same way as you ad tools like reading tablature and understanding theory enough to piece concepts together. Above all, have fun.
How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
This a great question. Exposure has a great deal to do with it. As exploration is encouraged, little things like matching pitch when singing, ability to keep time clapping and moving freely to the beat, even something as silly as showing promise with air guitar are good signs that passion for music is there. A love for music gets inside you; you’ll know when the time is right.
When will I start to see results?
Results may vary. We hear that all the time, but in this case it is very true. When exploration and encouragement are cornerstones, then a desire to improve takes over. Practice becomes something to look forward to. In order to achieve desired results work is required. When students put in the work and find joy in the process, results will come.
Did you have a teacher that inspired you to go into music? How did they inspire you?
I am a product of a musical family, one in which my grandfather had mastered any number of woodwind instruments. He would practice in the bathroom where he said the acoustics were at their best as I sat by the door loving every note that began to resonate in my very being. From the moment I first heard him to the day he passed, it was just the encouraging connection I needed to never give up striving to improve on this gift.
I have studied, practiced, and performed since the age of eight. First the accordion, then the baritone horn through high school, the tenor and tympani drums in the Navy, and guitar through much of that same time. It all came fairly easy to me though I must attribute a great deal of my early growth to a handful of wonderful musicians along the way. In my mid-twenties I met my lifelong musical mentor and friend. He is currently the director of the Digital Arts Recording Academy at my alma mater. His influence not only opened my eyes to a teaching style that brought to life everything you ever wanted to know about music on one sheet of paper (theory that is), he also is the finest guitar player and Christ like man I have ever had the privilege to know. Though I remain a true fan to many genres, he opened up a door that has brought with it the joy of leading and participating in worship for the last twenty-five years. This exposure for me also opened up a whole new door teaching guitar, bass, and music fundamentals.
