The main takeaway I want my students to walk away with after our lessons is that they enjoy playing the violin. I believe that encouragement and patience are huge parts of music education. However, I also like to push my students to take challenges and reach their highest potential. My mission is to help each student create a healthy sound rooted in the body, which, coupled with a solid breathing technique, creates an easy, effortless and dynamic tone. From the very first lesson, I teach a fudamental warm-up that addresses the physical, breathing and vocal, and which the student can use for the rest of their singing career. Once that's in place, I spend the remaining time tailoring the lesson itself to the individual student's needs; this may be focusing on breathing one day, while focusing on resonating the next. I have been involved in Musical Direction since 2008 when I established The Milford Players as an annual summer community theater group. I have since worked regularly in Brooklyn, New York as the Music Director, and have worked with various organizations through out the North East region ever since. My teaching style can be shaped around what the student is looking to learn. I do stress in my lessons the importance of consistency of practice. 15 mins everyday is much more rewarding than 3 hours in one day. I like to write out everything that I explain in my classes to my students so that they have a reference of what they are learning. Also, I am a strong believer of singing the notes that the student is playing, especially in scale studies. Read More
