I find that the most effective method with beginners is to color code things in a way that makes sense. I have stickers for this and a chart of what each means. Music is similar to math, and once the student can make proper associations in their head when looking at music or playing an instrument, the rest becomes easier. I've been playing music for most of my life. I began playing violin at age 5 and guitar at 10. Music has been my primary focus and love for almost fifty years. For me composing/writing, performing, producing, recording, mixing, mastering, music copying, album design, photography are all part of the process of making music.
