I received my Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Arizona State University in 2019 where I studied with Dr. Christopher Creviston, world-renowned soloist and soprano saxophone chair of the Capitol Quartet. Throughout my collegiate studies, I performed with a variety of groups at ASU including the Jazz Repertory Band, the Wind Ensemble, and the Virtus Quartet, in addition to performing with Breakthrough Indoor at the 2016 WGI World Championships and with the ASU Saxophone Choir at the 2020 North American Saxophone Alliance Biennial Conference. I was born in Cwmafan, South Wales, UK.into a house where the Welsh Language was spoken and sung. I was educated in Sandfields Comprehensive School, Hull then Cardiff Universities, where I studied with renowned Welsh composer Alun Hodinott. I taught in the London School system for several years. I emigrated to the USA in 1975, living and performing in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and then moving to Phoenix in 1989. My inspiration as a music teacher comes from the smiles of all my students. Whether that be from teaching their favorite pop song or classical repertoire, the joy from teaching always keeps me motivated. My volunteer work with several projects for young students in poverty simply stress the importance of music, and how it is linked to the development of the brain. For middle and high school students I also use etude books for sight reading practice and focus on technique to help with difficult rhythms and wide pitch ranges found in middle and high school music.
