MY name is Oded and I am an Israeli Cellist currently living in NYC. I started playing the cello when I was 4 after watching a video of Yo-Yo Ma perform Elgar Cello Concerto, which made me fall in-love with the sound of the cello. I began my studies in Suzuki method and soon moved to study at a music conservatory in my own town Kfar-Saba, Israel. I then graduated from both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Cello Performance and have been performing around the world as a chamber musician and a soloist ever since, playing in major recital halls such as Carnegie Hall, Avery Fischer Hall, and Tel-Aviv Museum. For beginners, I usually start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements books and Suzuki books 1-3 and supplement them with technical exercises. Once the student is comfortable with the fundamentals, I introduce appropriate cello solos and etude books. For children, I like to assign a well-rounded repertoire from various time periods and styles. Students of all ages can request to learn music that they find exciting. In music, I am a believer in realistic positive reinforcement. Unearthing mistakes and discussing them is quite uncomfortable for anyone. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 8 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument.
