Everybody learns differently and at different paces, and I prefer to cater to those individual styles. The one thing I find both rewarding and beneficial is to learn (or work on) at least one new song or lick for each session. I also encourage the students to keep a journal of songs and licks, just to help visualize and remember all that they have learned.
