I have been teaching music since I was 18 years old and have been doing it as my only source of income since 2010. The majority of my teaching was at a music school where I did individual lessons and seasonal group sessions. There I would pick 18-25 songs, cast students on parts, work on the songs for 3-4 months, and then put on a big concert. A few examples of shows I have directed are Iron Maiden, best of the 80s, Prog Rock, Global Metal, History of Punk, Grunge, Motown, Soundtracks show (music from film, TV, and video games), Devo, Rush, and many many more. We were also featured on the local television programs "Art Zone with Nancy Guppy" and "New Day Northwest". We also featured on YouTube as sponsored artists on EMGtv and Blue Microphones. I also have had the opportunity to share the stage with Crosby, Stills, and Nash, John Mayer, Don Felder, Brandi Carlile, Russell Ferrante, Travis Carlton, and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. As long as I have been playing ive been teaching. I actually surpassed my music teachers in elementary middle and high school and taught myself much of what I know through materials available to me at the school. As a musical teacher, I believe one of the most important goals is to learn to have fun while you practice. If your goal is to become a serious musician, many hours of practice is key but that cannot happen if you don't have the drive and motivation for it, so you must first enjoy what you are doing.
