For beginning students, I teach the Rubank Method. For intermediate and advanced students, I teach the Frost School Jazz Method. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For beginners with voice, I teach students about the voice and how to sing healthily. It is very important to learn how your body works and how to sing properly without damaging your voice. Next, we will practice vocal exercise to teach you proper technique. We will the move on to learning repertoire that is age-appropriate. We can sing repertoire of any genre or style- your choice! I am a creative, passionate, well-rounded music instructor who strives to instill a love for music in all of my students. Growing up in a musical household with both my mother and my grandmother as music teachers, I have been fortunate enough to have had musical exposure throughout my life. For the first couple lessons, you should expect me to evaluate the level of the student and isolate problem areas. I will help the student create short term and long term goals, whether it is for a class project or a giant audition coming up. I then tailor my lesson plans based off of those personal goals. Each lesson will be solely based around the needs and wants of the student based on their age-level, experience, and goals as a musician. We will work on many different vocal exercises and warm-ups to make sure we are strengthening every part of the vocal range. Ear training and music theory exercises can be implemented as well for those students who would like to improve their overall musicianship. As for repertoire, students may bring in whatever they are interested in learning, and/or I am more than willing to choose songs that I think would be fun and challenging within the genre the student wishes to learn.
