My teaching style is by assigning studies and etudes to develop fundamentals while simultaneously incorporating the learnt fundamentals into “real-time”, on the job training! I have learned all of my most valuable lessons while performing and being put on the spot; I will teach my students how to be prepared for any situation, not only in regard to music but also in relation to life, by having a calm and steady approach to the task at hand! I usually teach using the Suzuki Method until the student is advanced enough to tackle repertoire outside of the Suzuki books. Along with Suzuki and other repertoire I use various etude and scale studies books to enhance technique. I emphasize ear training as well as note reading, posture, left hand technique, bow arm technique, and of course phrasing and musicality. Music is a beautiful part of life and I strive to share my knowledge of it with others. Read More

I typically start with the Suzuki Method or the ABC's of Violin, as well as the I Can Read Music series. I believe ear-training and note-reading are equally important to a students' development, as well as mixing in genres other than classical that interest my students, such as jazz, fiddle or celtic. The goal is to have fun through excelling and making rapid and permanent good habits. I believe performing (preferably by memory) on your instrument is the best part of learning an instrument, so encourage my students to perform at least twice a year in a recital. Read More

For beginning string students, I start students with 'Time For Strings' written by Fishburn and Luman. This book is especially helpful for beginners due to the unique rhythmic approach. I also have an all-inclusive curriculum for beginning strings. When ready (usually within the first 6-8 months of lessons), all students are encouraged to participate in NYSSMA Festival's. Students taking private lessons are also encouraged to be part of my yearly recital. Read More

I am a very goal oriented person and I believe in setting small, realistic goals is a great approach for starting new projects. It’s very important to me that the student is fully engaged and ready to learn in these lessons. I will not force them to do anything, but instead offer my wisdom to help guide them in their musical journey. Every student is different and has different backgrounds, so my instruction style would be catered to their needs so that they are the most comfortable. Read More
