As a multi-instrumentalists, I use a cross disciplinary approach even when a student is only learning one instrument. I do make use of method books for beginners, and the specific book depends upon the instrument, but I have my own methods and materials which I utilize in my lessons. Building a repertoire is encouraged, and I use the material to assist in instructing in theory and musical communication. My students are taught to be self-sufficient, by way of practice, study, and cultivating an "ear." Read More

For beginning students, I use the Essential Elements book 1. This book introduces the student to the instrument in the most practical way while making it fun, and it has the student reading music from the beginning, which I find very important. After this, we go on to Suzuki book 2 and a scale book. Then we move our way through the Suzuki books and start to incorporate more complex scales and etudes. Read More

I believe in the importance of holistic music pedagogy for students at every level. Musicianship requires technical proficiency, music theory training, music history study, and creativity. I prefer to craft unique courses of study for each of my students rather than using popular, one-size-fits-all approaches, such as the Suzuki Method. Though many of these methods have valuable pedagogical insights, I hope my students can have a deep engagement with music, art and creativity that goes beyond technical mastery, a goal that requires a greater flexibility than such methods provide. In addition, I maintain an active private studio of all ages (from pre-K through beginning adults!), and I enjoy problem solving with each individual's perspective and experience in mind. I'm a firm believer that lessons should be tailored to each student's goals - there is absolutely no "one size fits all" method to playing an instrument. In my opinion, being positive and goal-oriented are the most important ingredients for success in music lessons. Read More

I love giving students a space to not only learn and grow, but also to find their own creative voices and passions. It's important for each student to feel inspired and to take a more active role in their learning process, so I listen to each student individually to successfully plan lessons that will resonate with them but also push them to improve. I am a 25 year old graduate of Manhattan School of Music, studying with Karen Ritscher.
