I've been teaching private trumpet lessons since I was in high school. I taught beginner and intermediate elementary and middle school students in my spare time. In college I taught students of all levels, ages, and backgrounds including advanced high school and college students and adult beginners. I always my encourage my students to pick music they like to play alongside the music I assign. I make sure to keep active on my trombone by playing in as many bands as possible and encourage my students to do the same. I work closely with my students to learn their musical interests and then establish their musical goals. With those goals in mind, we create a daily practice routine that is both fun, efficient, and designed specifically for that student, with their strengths and weaknesses taken into account.
