Effective music education is both developmentally and culturally appropriate: By working with the student to understand their interests, I hope to provide them with an experience that will enrich their musical and social life outside of the work we do together. Through infancy, I believe Music Learning Theory is effective for developing musical and linguistic skills. If a student in toddlerhood/childhood shows that they have a preferred way to express themselves musically, I will tailor lessons around the Kodaly (voice), Orff (instrumental), or Dalcroze (dance) philosophies. The program emphasized strong musicianship, discipline, and collaborative performance. After this, Erik continued teaching private lessons in Easton, Pennsylvania, building a studio focused on strong musical fundamentals, confidence, and long-term growth for students. He currently serves as the band director for the homeschool co-op Knowlton Fine Arts, where he leads students in ensemble playing and helps guide their musical development through structured band instruction. In addition to directing the band program, Erik is also a brass instructor at The Lesson Center, teaching at three locations and working with brass students to strengthen technique, tone, and musical expression. My primary instrument is trumpet and I have played in a variety of bands and sung in a variety of choruses of the years. I always have the student start by developing a practice routine consisting of long tones, flexibility exercises, scales and the different tonguing attacks; single, double, legato and staccato.
