We then set about drawing up a practice routine, specific to that student. The practice routine is a set of 3-5 exercises taken from my library music books that will each touch on an area or skill that the student needs to work on. The student will practice this routine daily and the following week the student and I will sit down and play through the routine together. Read More

For beginners, I like to start with the Standard of Excellence book 1, and intermediate students with book 2. The trombone is such a versatile instrument that there are tons of different styles of playing to practice. Depending on the student's level I will build curriculum for them. We will also play duets together, because it's very important to learn how to play well with others. Scales, lip slurs, and other exercises will be implemented as well. Read More

My teaching philosophy is to always continue moving forward. Let's stay focused and do the best we can, but never dwell on one thing for too long! Success comes from a variety of avenues, notably discipline (scheduling your time) and passion (enjoying the process of learning!). Learning and performing music is inherently difficult, but I am here to help guide you so that the process is fun and manageable! As Bruce Lee once said, "It takes a lifetime to know one's self", so let's work hard to discover what we are capable of and enjoy the journey! Read More
