I earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees in 2008 and 2009 in Euphonium Performance and Music Education from the University of North Texas while studying with the renowned Dr. Brian Bowman. While there, I advanced to the final round of a United States Navy Band audition. I am also generally happy to hear whatever a student wants to bring in if they have suggestions of their own. I always try to ask the student what the scene of a movie would be if they are playing the soundtrack, and get them to convey that when they play. Once the student has advanced to where I can see that they have a good grasp of the fundamentals of the instrument, that is typically when I begin to introduce solo repertoire and supplement with my own material. Of course, depending on the level will depend how far we get into music theory.
