My teaching experience has grown tremendously since being a teacher's assistant when I was in high school. I have been consistently involved with teacher music since my graduation from high school in 2007. In the Fort Wayne, IN area, I have worked with marching, jazz, and concert bands with multiple middle and high schools. I also have experience teaching smaller ensembles and private lessons. When working in private lessons, I work with each student to set goals, both long and short term. I then assume the role of a guide whenever possible, rather than an authoritarian figure, so that sudents can discover concepts for themselves vs. having the information given to them. When students discover the concepts for themselves, they tend to understand them much better because they have learned them through practical use. Read More

I love seeing my students succeed and feel great about what they are learning and mastering. Because of this, I make sure to take each student into consideration and move them along at their individual pace. We set realistic goals in each lesson, while also pushing ourselves to be the best we can be! For young beginning students, I really like to emphasize the fundamentals using whatever book the student uses for their band class. Once they get a good grasp on the fundamentals, then I start to introduce some solo repertoire appropriate to their skill level. For students who are older, I like to find out what area of the trumpet they want to improve on and structure our lessons to try and improve on those areas, as well as incorporate other fundamentals and solo repertoire. I try to make the lessons as fun as possible and geared towards what the student wants to learn.
