Due to lessons being customized for each student various method materials will be used including: method books, theory books, performance books, and my own materials that are created to fit the students' needs. After a level assessment during the first lesson music, including books, practice materials, and solos will be chosen to meet that level and be age appropriate. My teaching experience began about 5 years ago, teaching guitar, piano, electric bass and recording techniques to children ages 6-18 at an overnight summer camp. Having my students form bands, small combos and even 12-15 people groups was always a good way to reinforce the importance of communication and teamwork. These groups helped my students hold themselves accountable, as well as made from an incredibly fun learning environment. I am a driven and holistic instructor that finds meaning, passion, and understanding from sharing music with others. I graduated from Northern Illinois University, in 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Trombone Performance. During my time at NIU, I studied with Jeremy Moeller, principal trombone of the Lyric Opera of Chicago. I am an extremely passionate music teacher who enjoys helping students of all ages learn or advance on their instrument. I graduated with my bachelor's and master's degree in music from the University of South Dakota and currently teach K-12 general music, instrumental band, and marching band in Parker, SD. As a musician, I have participated in many life changing experiences such as performing in the Thanksgiving Rose Parade in California, performing in the New Year's Day parade in London, and also traveling and singing in beautiful churches across Europe. Once the student has a grasp of their instrment and the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire and tecnique exercises.
