It depends on age, skill, and interests! For younger musicians, I prefer books by great instructors and writters such as Hal Leonard, Jean Arban, Rubank, or Jamie Abersold. For more experienced players, I recommend authors such as Charles Collins, Herbert Clarke, Laurie Frink, or John McNeil. I have always enjoyed taking important concepts from these books and creating my own variations of the exercises that tailor to even more specific techniques and skills! Read More

I have been teaching since I was a senior in high school. Over the last 10 years I have come to realize that all students learn differently and all will encounter problems in different ways. Some students will overcome these challenges in a few days, others it may take a few months. I know because I was one of those students where it took a few months. After teaching myself theory at the age of 4, I received my first musical instruction in 6th grade. At that time I learned to play the flute. This is where my musicianship began to blossom and opportunities were sent my way. Thanks to my love and dedication, I was one of a few placed in special bands. Auditioning & being selected for choruses during this time increased as well. As a result of my hard work, I was offered & accepted the positions at section leader and Drum Majorette in my high school's concert and marching bands & after joining choir my junior year I became lead soloist of the choir. I've been giving lessons since I was in high school, but I was able to expand the instruments I'm able to teach from my college training. I have been teaching with Webster's Community Music School for the past year and a half and I have had great success with teaching young beginners, although I have started older kids and even adults with great success (I just use a different curriculum with older students).
