As a child of an adult learner who took lessons in guitar and voice, I understand the distinction between adult and younger learners. While I try to follow a mostly K12 standard structure to my private lessons at the end of the day I will be tailoring my instruction to my students wants and needs. I like to set attainable weekly goals with my students in regards to technique and style that will be implemented via exercises, scales and into our repertoire. For all beginning students, I usually will take a lesson or two to assess where the student is at regarding music, depending on (if any) previous experience with music, e.g. piano lessons, etc. For trumpet students, I am not beholden to any one instructional method book. I've been teaching private lessons on multiple instruments since 2001. I teach beginning thru advanced levels on electric bass, clarinet, and jazz theory.
