For all beginning students, I usually will take a lesson or two to assess where the student is at regarding music, depending on (if any) previous experience with music, e.g. piano lessons, etc. For trumpet students, I am not beholden to any one instructional method book. When working in private lessons, I work with each student to set goals, both long and short term. I then assume the role of a guide whenever possible, rather than an authoritarian figure, so that sudents can discover concepts for themselves vs. having the information given to them. When students discover the concepts for themselves, they tend to understand them much better because they have learned them through practical use. Read More

I want my students to do the best they can, and I greatly love seeing there progress and development for the music they love to hear. My style is always been cool, calm, and patience since I know things take time to developed that I understanding of a point takes awhile to sink in. Hello! I'm a recent graduate from Lawrence University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Instrumental/Choral/General Education finishing up my student teaching. As a child of an adult learner who took lessons in guitar and voice, I understand the distinction between adult and younger learners. The pacing, goal setting and choice of materials and resources is important to keep interest and spark inspiration to practice and maintain growth.
