My responsibility as an instructor is to develop and refine the students musical skills. With good discipline and earnest effort the student can acquire these goals. I will personally develop a weekly regimen to meet the needs of the individual student according to their ability. I guide my instruction accordingly to keep my lessons interesting and challenging. I have a basic set of books to work through that help with tone development and technique, but my main focus is helping the student develop the sound they want and discover what style of music is best for them. Everyone is taking music lessons for different reasons. There is no correct path to teaching when each student wants something different out of lessons. Some want a laid back hobby to develop and have fun with, while others want to compete and become professional; and I adapt to each students goals and wants. I believe that studying music has value far beyond simply learning an instrument. I hope that my students are inspired by music, and really feel the freedom to treat it as a creative outlet. Additionally, practicing consistently teaches discipline. Even for beginners, it is better to practice for 10 minutes every day than four hours once a week. I try to be as encouraging as possible, and will also provide opportunities for students to play with others or perform for friends/family. Read More
