I love to share my love and joy for music as I teach my students. In 1999, I graduated from Lebanon Valley College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education with piano as my major instrument. I began performing by singing in church as a child. I've participated musically in church worship services throughout my life soloing and accompanying choirs on flute and piano. Also, I've musically lead church worship services by piano and participated as part of church and community musical ensembles and organizations through the years. Read More

The first lesson is often very relaxed and focused on the student's learning style. I will then start with one of the many beginner books that I feel will suit the student. Often that depends on the age, experience, and knowledge. I want the music to push the boundaries, but not too difficult. My students will focus on slow, steady, and consistent practice schedules. I have been playing and teaching professionally for 32 years. I perform approximately 50 gigs per month on piano and flute as a soloist or duo with my husband (who is a teacher and performer on classical guitar, also in the Musika family). I have enjoyed classical music since childhood and would be in awe of anyone with musical ability. I am happy to now be able to play pieces that I thought could only be played by people with exceptional ability. Read More

Great music lessons are a mix of solid technique building and fun application of those skills. I always spend the first few lessons getting the student familiar with the basic technique of the instrument, and then quickly move on to duets, improvising, sight reading, solos, etc. that tie in with the current technique studies. Music can also be heard or read, so I try to strike a balance between reading music/theory and learning/improvising by ear. Read More

I have been teaching since 2007, and have worked with nearly all levels -- from the ultra beginners who have never held a flute to the advanced flutist who has gone on to place in competitions or won collegiate scholarships. I've had 6-year-old students and 60-year-old students. In addition, I also have given workshops on topics such as stage presence, vibrato, and intonation, and have conducted three different flute choirs. I always try to gear lessons to individual needs; for those who want to enjoy playing, I can provide fun as well as structure to lead improvement -- and for those who wish to be competitive musicians, I can provide the necessary framework to help you reach your goals.
