I have been playing and teaching professionally for 32 years. I perform approximately 50 gigs per month on piano and flute as a soloist or duo with my husband (who is a teacher and performer on classical guitar, also in the Musika family). I have enjoyed classical music since childhood and would be in awe of anyone with musical ability. I have taught privately now for over a decade, as well as in classrooms and given masterclasses to all ages. I worked with pre-K through to the collegiate level in Philadelphia. I also work in communities, bridging gaps geographically and ideologically through musical experiences. I have taught in the United States, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching lessons full time in music school 10 years ago when I was just 17 years old, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 8 years. I've attended a lot of master classes and workshops in Europe and the USA, and I learned a lot of different methods and have a lot of experience. My students are encouraged to enter competitions, recitals and orchestra's auditions, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. I like to tailor my teaching for each individual I teach. For piano students, I prefer Alfred's methods, whether the adult or for beginners. For band and orchestra, I use Essential Elements (or whatever their school is using), and supplement with Rubank's methods. For voice, I concentrate on whatever the student is interested in, with a foundation of good technique and understanding of the voice range and how to control it, with some solfege and sight-singing mixed in.
