I have always focused on teaching each student holistically. I hope to influence students in their discovery of music through various modalities of learning, including visual, auditory, proprio-kinesthitic (movement), with a special focus on audiation. During piano and flute study, we explore the instruments as acoustical marvels and the students' interactions with them. Voice lessons always involve the whole body and mind. I currently start teaching piano from the Faber method books, as they encourage the students move around the piano using different fingerings. We play flash card games, and sometimes use music apps to help learn the notes on the staff, while playing clapping ryhythm games most lessons. I also teach from the alfred method books as well as the alfred adult series. Congregational hymnplaying is taught using the students' own church hymnal, encouraging the student to start playing in church through preludes, eventually leading into playing for the congregation as ready. I find that I am at my happiest when I am instructing people in one of my greatest loves, music. In 2018, I graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor of the Arts in Music, my emphasis being the saxophone. I have performed with numerous ensembles and one of the greatest rewards I get from playing is seeing the joy that it brings to others. During my four years at Ohio, I was able to play with the community symphony and it was there that I was able to see what music does for people in bringing them together and creating a strong sense of community, understanding, and joy.
