I always emphasize musicality in my teaching, because if as performers, we are focusing on being expressive, we'll convey our love of music! If a student can think about what the music is expressing, they will be more motivated to keep practicing.  I focus on the fundamentals such as tone, rhythm, dynamics, timbre, basic music theory and history. I always give specific positive feedback, along with a tip for improvement. Finally, I always go over how, how much, and what to practice in lessons, so the student can learn what to listen for and focus on outside of the lesson, and keep improving during the week. For my beginning students, I either use the beginning band book they are using at school, the Rubank series, Breeze-easy method, or if more appropriate, I custom design lesson plans. For my intermediate students, I work off of the band/orchestra pieces they are learning, and/or supplement more standard flute pieces, some with piano accompaniment. I also use higher level flute study books such as the intermediate-advanced Rubank series, Taffanel and Gaubert exercises, Tone Development and Interpretation by Marcel Moyse, et cetera. Read More

I'm a recent transplant to Brooklyn, NY after spending seven wonderful years studying and working in Boston! Originally from Gainesville, Florida, I first learned piano, then added saxophone, clarinet, flute, and bass in my middle and high school years. I went on to receive a Bachelor's degree from the University of Miami and a Master's degree from the New England Conservatory in Boston.
