Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.

I tailor my teaching to what my students want to learn and what kinds of music they are interested in. I try to teach my students the fundamentals in order to succeed. While I do teach repertoire, my main goals are to foster a passion for music and the ability to approach new music my students may encounter. I try to leave my students with effective practice methods and a basic understanding of music theory in addition to flute skills. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I often use the Andrew Scott Method for flute. When the student is considerably advance I will use the Rubank Book for flute begginers. Once the student is at a comfortable level, I will proceed to introduce him to Body Mapping. For adults, I will prefer to first of all know more about their learning abilities, other experiences with music/sports. Than, I will find out more what they are looking to learn and work from there. I grew up singing in church and school choirs and playing in my school band. I continued in High School in the Band, Jazz Band, Choir and Show Choir. In college I pursued a duel degree in Counseling and Music. My music degree included Music History, Performance, Theory, and Conducting. I performed in the band as First Chair Flute and in the Chorale, Chamber Choir and Chapel Choir. I have been a member of various concert bands, though unfortunately there is not one in my are that I can currently join, or I would. I do perform solo flute and vocals at events. In each lesson the student and myself work to make goals for them to accomplish every week and discuss discuss the ways they might be able to go about accomplishing the goals. Sometimes I will make audio recordings of a student to track progress. For a student to sit and really listen to the improvemnets they have made I find to be one of my best teaching tools. My teaching experience started when I was a sophomore in high school -- I knew then I wanted to be in the music education field so I used my free time to work with flutists in the grades below me to help them prepare for their ensemble auditions and end-of-year playing exams. Since then I have earned my degree in music education and taught flutists of all levels! I have found that positive reinforcement and creating a safe and welcoming space has been the biggest factor in students' growth and how long they stick with the instrument. Read More
