Part of my lesson times include teaching how to practice. However, I will always find a way to make the most out of an opportunity with a student. I'd rather spend time helping them learn how to express themselves with freedom and skill. When learning a specific task or skill, I use modeling in my teaching style. I have extensive orchestral experience including The Bolshoi Theater, Moscow central Philharmonic Orchestra, Russian Philharmonic, and San Luis Potosi symphony orchestra. I lived and taught in Mexico for 4 years while playing as assistant principal second violin at San Luis Potosi symphony orchestra in Mexico. Currently I play with many symphony orchestras in Indiana, Nebraska and Texas on a permanent basis. I teach privately and enjoy having students with different levels from all over the world. A majority of my students have ranged from brand new players to an intermediate level, but I am willing and enthusiastic about teaching players of all levels! I like to use several methods in my lessons. I use a lesson book, Essential Elements for Strings for violin and viola students and Alfred books for piano students. In addition to these, I supplement with song books, concertos, etudes, scales, and songs the students want to learn to play. I also teach ear training where I'll play something and then have the students play it back to me. I think it's essential to not only learn to read music, but to play by ear, AND improvise! When it comes to playing the violin, the automaticism of such motions as in what is required to efficiently and effortlessly master one’s craft begins with the simplicity of a regimented practice pattern and structured rhythmic pattern done everyday. This must be cradled by a safety net of inner Development. Without developing the Heart one cannot develop the craft.
