Depending on the students level, I will focus on a certain range of scales to build strength. The first few lessons are spent learning about one another and giving/getting feedback on what the student liked or didn't like. This is very important to me, as I want to establish long-standing musicians! I also try to establish a vocal goal each month. I graduated from Jacobs school of music at IU in 2018 as a Performer diploma student in violin performance studying with Austin Hartman, a member of the Pacifica Quartet. I came to Bloomington a year ago and previously received my Master in music at Nebraska University at Glenn Korff school of music. I have always loved teaching music. I think that it is a very important aspect of being a musician. I feel the need to pass on everything that I have learned. I started studying classical music and shortly after beginning, started to branch out into other styles. Over the years, I have studied, country, Irish, and Cajun fiddling, Jazz, Rock, Improv, and kept up with my classical studies. I teach the fundamentals of the violin (for beginners) out of the Hal Leonard Essential Elements book series. For solo pieces and scales (for students who have had a year or so of instruction), I teach out of the Suzuki Method books. For more advanced students, I use technique books such as Wolfhart and Sevcik to develop bow and finger control. Additional books I use for choosing repertoire for students include Barber's Solos for Young Violinists and various concerti depending on the student's ability level. Read More
