I like to get beginning students comfortable with their instrument and playing music as soon as possible. I use common method books such as Faber, as well as newer ones aimed to younger students such as Wunderkeys. I teach traditional reading and music theory, but also include a wide variety of outside materials to get students learning the necessary vocabulary to be their own observer. I began playing piano and attending lessons at age 6 and began playing drums at age 11. I have consistently played in my middle and high school bands and have attended numerous Honor Bands and camps related to concert percussion. After I graduated high school, I began attending LSU to earn an Bachelor's Degree in Music Education, and performed with LSU Wind Ensemble and Tiger Marching Band. My experience teaching started in college. I was lucky enough to be elected the Music Director of an all male a cappella group at Missouri State and much of my time was spent teaching vocal techniques, musicianship, and arranging to the group as well as individually. At this time, I was also the tenor section leader for the Missouri State Concert Chorale under the direction of Dr. Guy Webb. After college, I pursued a teaching career in Birmingham, AL where I taught private voice and piano lessons to 30-40 students a week as well as coaching group classes and rock bands for competition.
